De Castro allegedly traveled to Miami to find a potential buyer in Miami, but investigators were able to track his movements using GPS data from Uber trips and AirTags left in one of the suitcases.

De Castro, a Brazilian citizen with U.S. residency, arrived at the hotel the day before the theft and allegedly charged a meal at the hotel bar to the victims’ room.

He was later pictured in a hotel elevator carrying suitcases of the unnamed victims, according to a federal complaint, as reported by Fox news.

De Castro waited a week before finding a potential buyer on Instagram, who wired him $50,000.

The alleged thief then took the stolen items to the buyer’s store in Miami, authorities said.

Items stolen also included five Tumi suitcases worth $5,000 and a $1,000 carry-on bag.

The bags contained a $14,000 Chanel dress, along with other clothes and shoes worth approximately $285,000.
