Beverley Knight hits back after viewers accuse her of ‘lip-syncing’ during Strictly Come Dancing results show performance

Beverley Knight has hit back after fans accused her of ‘lip-synching’ during her performance on Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing results show.

The Greatest Day singer, 50, sang I’m On Fire with the London Gospel Choir, while professional dancers Gorka Marquez and Katya Jones put on some very fiery tracks.

The famous singer looked regal as she performed from a throne of blue velvet, while images of flames flared around the dancers for a dazzling performance.

But some BBC viewers were unimpressed and took to Twitter to accuse her of copying the song.

One TV viewer said: ‘Why is she miming, bad at it and not on time!’, while another said: ‘Someone teach Beverley Knight how to lip sync!’.

Beverley broke her silence later in the evening, ending the rumors by confirming that her vocals were indeed sung live.

She tweeted: “Hi to everyone who watched #Strictly tonight! In my entire career, I have NEVER imitated a note. Not once. Murder is real people, note by note.’

She added that she actually performed the song twice for the studio audience, when it was pre-recorded on Saturday night.

Viewers apparently thought her vocals were so flawless that they had to be imitated.

Her loyal fans soon hit back, with one saying: “So good some people think you’re miming!” while another added: ‘It’s like the current Queen of Soul was miming!’

Jodie Cundy was the third celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2023 after a terrible dance-off on Sunday.

The Paralympian, who celebrated his 45th birthday on Saturday, left the show along with professional partner Jovita Przystal after his salsa landed at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Jodie faced comedian Eddie Cuddy in a tense dance-off as both stars tried to impress the judges once again.

First up was the birthday boy who once again performed his routine to Bellini’s Samba de Janeiro, before Eddie and partner Karen Hauer danced their American Smooth to Tom Jones’ Sex Bomb.

After both couples hit the floor for the second time, judges Craig Revel Horwood, Mozzi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas decided to save Eddie.

Craig said: ‘For improvement and musicality I’d like to save Eddie and Karen.’

While Motsi, who also saved Eddie and Karen, agreed, saying: “It was a very clear decision for me, one couple was much, much stronger. I’d like to save Eddie and Karen.’

Anton Du Beke also decided to save them, explaining: ‘Well based on dancing and only dancing,’

‘I thought one couple did a great dance and one couple had a bit of an off night, there were a few mistakes so I’d like to save Eddie and Karen.’

With three votes for Eddie and Karen, it meant they won the majority of votes and would remain in the competition regardless, however head judge Shirley Ballas also said she would have decided to save Eddie and Karen.

He tells host Tess Daly: ‘I agreed with the judges to save Eddie and Karen.’

Speaking about his time on the show, Jody said: “You know what, when I signed up for this I thought what am I signing up for and we did that first live show and I absolutely loved every second of it.

“And just being able to dance and do something I’ve never done before and completely step out of my comfort zone,” before turning to Jovita and praising her as an “amazing person.”
