Bette Midler has deactivated her X account following Donald Trump’s stunning political comeback, but not before insulting the new president, calling him “a complete idiot.”
The Hocus Pocus star, 78, is among liberal celebrities dismayed by the 78-year-old Republican’s landslide victory in the November 5 US presidential election after he defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris, 60.
Before deactivating her account, she opened up about her disapproval of the president-elect in a lengthy statement about X, joking that his mind “is a virtual vacuum.”
She wrote: βWhen a candidate for public office faces the voters, he does not face sensible men; he is confronted with a band of men whose chief distinguishing feature is their complete inability to weigh ideas, or to understand even the most basic ones – men whose entire thinking is in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is the fear is for fear. what they cannot understand.
‘So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or get lost… All odds are against the man who is, intrinsically, the most cunning and mediocre – the man who can most adeptly propagate the idea that his mind is a virtual vacuum is. β¦ The presidency tends to go to such men year after year.β
