Bette Middler praises her daughter Sophie von Haselberg for her ‘fantastic’ movie Give Me Pity!

After admitting that she’s had ‘tailoring on my face’ in a recent interview, Hollywood legend Bette Midler praised her daughter Sophie von Haselberg.

Midler, 77, spoke about the new movie Give Me Pity! of her 36-year-old daughter, which was recently released in theaters, as she spoke with People at the Costume Designers Guild Awards on Monday.

Sophie is the only daughter of the actress with Martin von Haselberg, with whom she has been married since 1984.

When asked if she offered any advice to her daughter as she embarked on her acting career, Midler said no, but did talk about her daughter’s new movie.

‘No, I didn’t give her any advice, but I have to say, she was in this movie. It just came out, it’s called Give Me Pit!, and she plays a ’70s artist who’s doing a special, remember specials? Midler said.

She added that her daughter was “fantastic” in the film, which followed her character Sissy St. Claire as she embarks on her first TV special…which quickly turns into “a psychedelic nightmare.”

Midler added: “And she’s wearing clothes that I would have worn.” I just said, “Sophie, can I have that wardrobe?” It was great.’

Sophie made her feature film debut as a toddler in the 1991 film Frankie and Johnny before returning to the profession as an adult in 2015’s Irrational Man.

He continued to work regularly in both film and television with roles in House of Cards, American Crime Series, and most recently, Pose.

Asked if it’s been hard watching her daughter try to run such a tough business, Midler said: “It is and it’s not.”

‘I think life is challenging for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re in business or if you’re in a different field,” she added.

‘It is very difficult. It’s very different. The last five years have been very challenging for everyone,” Midler admitted.

The actress added that she “tried to empathize, tried to allow empathy in and tried to say, ‘Well, we’re all in the same boat,’ it’s different.”

Fantastic: She added that her daughter was “fantastic” in the film, which followed her character Sissy St. Claire embarking on her first TV special … which quickly turns into “a psychedelic nightmare.”

Boat: The actress added that she’s tried to empathize, trying to allow empathy, and trying to say, “Well, we’re all in the same boat,” is different.

‘People are rising, people are sinking. And I’ll tell you something: Every puppy has its day. That’s life,’ she added.

When asked about the costumes she’s worn throughout her iconic career, and if she has a favorite, she couldn’t pick one.

“Oh my gosh no, they’re all my babies,” she added, though her mermaid costumes are close to her heart.

“I’m a fan of mermaids because they evolved and started as rudimentary mermaids and evolved into the most ridiculous mermaids, it was very creative. Oh, and so beautiful,” he added.

As for when she herself feels most beautiful? “It’s mostly on my own shows,” Midler admitted.

“The shows I put together for myself, because those are really the silliest, the most ridiculous and the funniest,” Midler said.

“The red carpet is pretty standard, but your own show is, you know, you speak from the heart,” she said.

Midler has Sitting in Bars with Cake, an adaptation of Audrey Shulman’s cookbook of the same name, in post-production, while her daughter has three more films in post-production.
