The home cook admitted that the dish had an extremely “smooth” and “satisfying” sauce – and the secret was being patient and letting the onions fully caramelize before adding other ingredients to the pot.

Ashley used butter, onion, dry white wine, thyme leaves, gluten-free pasta, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, Parmesan cheese, and almond milk for the dish.

How to make Ashley’s Caramelized Onion Casserole

Ingredients

4 tbsp butter

1 large onion, thinly sliced

1/3 cup dry white wine

1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves

Pinch of salt

10 oz gf paste

3 cups beef broth

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup almond milk

Method

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan or Dutch oven. Add the sliced ​​onions. Season with salt and stir. Cover and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the lid, reduce the heat to medium low and cook the onions for about 20 minutes. Be sure to stir every few minutes.
  • Pour in the white wine and add the fresh thyme leaves.
  • Add the uncooked pasta directly to the pan. Pour in the stock and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes or until pasta is tender.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in the cheese and almond milk.

She then turned off the heat and stirred in 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and 1/4 cup almond milk.
