A woman has been criticised as “selfish” and “evil” for refusing to babysit her friend’s children after the other woman was admitted to hospital with cancer.
Anna* said that while she felt “angry” that she couldn’t help, she simply couldn’t leave her dogs home alone to look after her friend’s children.
‘My best friend has cancer and she has to go to the hospital because she has an infection in her port. She has been putting off going for four days because she has children and her [partner] works for both of us,’ she shared online.
“I feel so bad because she needs someone to watch the kids and I can’t do that. I have dogs and I can’t leave them alone to go to her house.”
The friend offered to drop off her children at Anna’s, but that brought new problems.
‘[My grandmother] says no because she doesn’t want to hang out with them. I’m mad right now because I just had to tell my best friend of 10 years that I can’t watch her kids because my grandma thinks they’re making a mess.’
After being challenged about choosing her pets over her sick boyfriend, Anna claimed it was an unfair comparison.
‘[I’m picking a dog over my best friend who has cancer] because if it means I come back and my dogs are gone or not taken care of, then there is no comparison.
“One is no more or less than the other. Just say you don’t value animal life and move on.”

Hundreds of people were shocked by Anna’s attitude.
“Wow, choosing a dog over your best friend who has cancer is wild. I would drop that friend,” said one.
“I would give anything to spend some time with my best friend who passed away from cancer. She pulled herself out of it before she had any treatment and I would have jumped at the chance to help her in this way. That woman is not a friend,” said another.
“That’s so sad… this isn’t even my girlfriend but if I lived anywhere near her I would go support and comfort HER girlfriend. Imagine supporting your girlfriend for decades only to have them leave you alone and scared while you slowly die from cancer,” a third commented.
Some pointed out that she tried to blame her grandmother for the problem.
“I love how they try to make grandma out to be the bad guy when they put dogs above their best friend. It’s also weird to think that grandma is so concerned about ‘mess’ but allows dogs,” one woman wrote.
Another added: ‘And why can’t grandma look after the dogs? They live there right? She probably walks them a lot and feeds them… so? I don’t know where she thinks the dogs go.’
