Celebrity chef Josh Niland raves about ‘best ever’ bread roll at a little Sydney restaurant: ‘A timeless masterpiece’

One of Australia’s top chefs has revealed his ‘favourite’ snack across Sydney – and the treat is said to ‘exceed all expectations’.

Josh Niland is the owner and chef behind the popular restaurants Saint Peter and the Fish Butchery.

He shared his favorite snack, his favorite cafe for the best coffee in Sydney and his favorite ‘hidden gem’ in the city.

“The potato bread at Ester is a timeless masterpiece,” Mr. Niland said Flyer.

Mat Lindsay’s restaurant Ester has been called one of the ‘best places in Sydney’ by critics, with guests returning again and again for its wood-fired dishes.

‘I ended up here because I happened to come across a mention about potato bread. It’s definitely the star of the show,” said one five-star reviewer.

Another enthused: ‘Every dish was a delight to the taste buds, but a few in particular stood out to me. The fermented potato bread with salmon roe and kefir cream was a unique and tasty combination.’

“The potato bread and condiments were top notch,” echoed a third. “It exceeded all the hype.”

Mr Niland also said Room Ten in Potts Point serves the best coffee in Sydney.

The cafe uses Australian brand Mecca Coffee for its signature drinks.

Room Ten is also known for its sandwiches and avocado toast – with several claiming to visit the spot several times a week for brunch.

When it comes to his favorite hidden gem, Mr Niland recommends a small cafe in North Sydney.

‘I don’t know how hidden it is now, but the team at Fiore Bread makes beautiful bread, pastries and coffee.

‘And [they] have a beautifully sunny position in McMahons Point on the north coast – ideal for an early morning treat,” he said.

Reviewers couldn’t agree more.

“Exceptional artisan bakery on the lower North Shore,” said one. ‘The emmer seed bread and the fruit and nut bread are great. The Armenian walnut cake is also delicious. You can have a cup of coffee and enjoy the village setting of Blues Point Road.”

“Fiore has the most perfect bread in all of Sydney,” said another.
