- Hope Sheekey, 29, refused to accept it when Emilio Aguero ended their romance
- She sent a sinister text message: “I have a knife. I am going to kill you. I want to see you’
A lovestruck university student threatened to kill her Spanish ex-boyfriend as she called him a hundred times a day in a bid to rekindle their fractured romance.
Hope Sheekey, 29, used 12 different phone numbers and social media to stalk Emilio Aguero for two months before threatening to stab him when he didn’t respond.
In a sinister message to Mr Aguero, Sheekey, who studied modern languages at the University of Chester, warned: ‘I have a knife. I am going to kill you. I want to see you.’
He later contacted police and said he lived in fear of encountering Sheekey armed with a knife when he ventured outside his home in Old Trafford, Manchester. He says he no longer uses the main entrance to the building in case she is there.
At Warrington Crown Court, Sheekey, from Wigan, admitted harassment and was banned from contacting Mr Aguero for 12 months under a restraining order. She was also fined £266 and ordered to pay £234 costs.

The court heard the harassment began after Mr Aguero ended the couple’s relationship in October last year over a phone call in which he said he was ‘not in love’ with Sheekey anymore.
But in response she was said to have been bombarded with ‘hundreds’ of messages and calls, and when he blocked her number she used numerous unknown and restricted phone numbers to continue contacting him.
Ms Sarah McInerney, prosecuting, said: ‘She stated she came to Manchester to see him. He told her not to do that and blocked her number, but she received several calls from some unknown numbers. There were over a hundred calls that day.
‘A total of twelve different songs were used, including limited songs. The defendant also started contacting him through social media, such as Facebook, where she was also blocked.
‘As we continued to be contacted at 11.30pm, the victim sent a message to the defendant saying ‘I don’t want to see you’ but the messages continued. She continued to call the victim’s family and at one point said, ‘I have a knife. I am going to kill you. I want to see you.’
‘On November 8, the victim received several more phone calls. He answered one call and she stated it was her. On that day he received about 95 calls.
“When questioned by police, the suspect made full confessions during interrogation. She has no previous convictions, but this offense is aggravated by the fact that it was committed in a domestic setting and threats were made to the victim.’
In a statement, Mr Aguero said: “The situation has made me very concerned. I had to go to the doctor for my mental health and I had to call the police. I’m especially worried because she said she had a knife and said she was going to kill me.

‘I’m afraid that one day I could go out and she could be there with a knife. As a result, I no longer use the main entrance to the building.’
In mitigation, Sheekey’s barrister John Black said: ‘This lady is of good character and admitted the charge when she first appeared before your colleagues.
‘She was questioned by police and the allegation was fully admitted. She fully accepts that her behavior was wrong and inappropriate.
‘The victim impact statement was made in November and there has been no contact between the parties since then. As far as the restraining order goes, there is no problem. It is not the intention to have any contact.’
Sheekey was also sentenced to a 12-month community order, with a requirement that she undergo mental health treatment if deemed fit. She was also ordered to complete 20 days of rehabilitation.
