Besiktas has issued a statement refuting claims that Burnley’s Wout Weghorst’s loan deal can be terminated if Manchester United pay £2m.

Weghorst has enjoyed a stellar season so far at Besiktas, scoring nine goals in 18 appearances for the Turkish side and has been linked with a January move to United.

However, Besiktas has denied reports that there is an out clause in the striker’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated early with compensation.

Beşiktaş has issued a statement refuting claims that Burnley’s Wout Weghorst’s loan deal may be terminated if Manchester United pay £2m.

Besiktas described such claims as “fictitious news” and “speculative”. They insisted that the public would be ‘informed’ if there were any real developments.

The Istanbul-based team released the following statement: “After our A-soccer team’s match against Kasimpasa in the Super League, there was a need to make a statement due to the speculative news in the media about our soccer player Wout Weghorst.” .

“The claim that there is an exit clause in our footballer’s contract, which states that his contract can be terminated with compensation of €2.5m in the event of a Premier League bid, is fictitious.

However, the news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely false. The initiative on Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to the Besiktas Gymnastics Club.’

The club added: “We also state that if there is a development on this issue, our esteemed community and the public will be informed.”
