Bernie Sanders delivers scathing verdict on longtime ally Joe Biden as the president prepares to leave office
Bernie Sanders said Joe Biden’s biggest failure as president was not being “strong enough” or being able to communicate his economic policies to ordinary working-class Americans.
The Vermont senator stood steadfastly behind his former presidential rival after the Biden debate disaster in Georgia in June, but admitted in a new interview that Biden’s message was weak and incoherent.
Although he claimed Biden’s record on domestic policy was “strong,” Sanders told streamer Hasan Piker that he had not achieved his goals.
“He has not been the kind of leader and communicator who made that record understandable to the American people,” the 83-year-old Democratic Socialist said.
Despite listing a number of things he thought Biden had done well in his four years — including being “unapologetically pro-labor” — Sanders said Biden ultimately fell short.
“The truth is, given the position of the American worker today, this is simply not enough,” he said.
Sanders argued that Biden should have gone further on his progressive agenda, raising the minimum wage and expanding Medicare.
The Vermont socialist even went so far as to mention something that Biden did poorly compared to Donald Trump.
Bernie Sanders said Joe Biden’s biggest failure as president was not being strong enough or communicating his record to Americans
Sanders, 83, has admitted in a new interview with popular left-wing streamer Hasan Piker that Biden’s message was weak and incoherent
“Biden has accomplished a lot, but he is not doing what Trump is doing: identifying enemies,” he said.
He said that while Trump tends to blame immigrants or transgender people, Biden refuses to use an equally strong message about corporate greed.
“They are talking about it, but not forcefully enough and not presenting specific policies to deal with it,” Sanders added.
He called Lina Khan “one of the heroines of that administration,” but had little positive to say about what the Democrats did in November.
Sanders conceded that Trump would “bring about change” and Democrats defended the system.
Piker asked Sanders if Democrats were failing to communicate that they would bring about change.
“No,” Sanders said with his typical bluntness. “I don’t think it’s a communication issue, I think this is what the Democrats stand for.”
Just before the president withdrew from the election, Sanders admitted that Joe Biden “is old, prone to blunders, walks stiffly and had a disastrous debate with Trump.”
Vermont’s representative outlined his issues with Biden, but condemned a vocal ‘firing squad’ focused on the president’s age

Sanders said that while Trump tends to blame immigrants or transgender people, Biden refuses to use an equally strong message about corporate greed.
The Democratic senator laid out his position in an essay for the New York Times, in which he accepted that the president is “not the ideal candidate.”
However, he warned his party’s supporters that obsessing over Biden’s blunders would only get Donald Trump elected.
The 82-year-old Sanders specifically targeted a vocal group of elected Democrats, whom he called a “firing squad,” and who have been calling for the president’s resignation since the presidential debate.
‘Enough! Mr. Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate,” Sanders wrote.
“And with an effective campaign that addresses the needs of working families, he will not only defeat Mr. Trump, he will batter him deeply. It’s time for Democrats to stop the bickering and nitpicking.”
The Vermont representative admitted that he and the president disagree on several issues, including U.S. support for Israel’s war on Gaza and the Affordable Care Act, which he sees as inadequate.
However, he defended the president’s “excellent” record, as well as his performance in recent weeks.
Biden quit nearly eight days after publishing that essay.
