Social media erupted with praise for Bernardo Silva after the Manchester City star put his side ahead against Newcastle with a stunning finish, but there were questions over whether the goal should have stood.
The Portuguese maestro produced a stunningly deft touch to fire Kyle Walker’s cross past Martin Dubravka to give Pep Guardiola’s side the lead during the first half at St James’ Park. City would then disappoint twice before halftime.
Silva had to hook the ball from behind him with his right foot and clip it past his other supporting leg. Praise quickly poured in for the Man City star’s glamorous strike.
The hot on the heels effort adds to an already blossoming catalog of sensational Premier League goals this season, with Alejandro Garnacho’s bicycle kick still the most obvious choice.
Despite City players and Guardiola celebrating Silva’s goal emphatically, there was anger among Newcastle’s ranks as they felt the goal should have been disallowed.

Another hilariously added: ‘I went to the bathroom and just saw Bernardo Silva’s goal. Lmaoooooooo what the hell was that?!?! He’s incredible.’
Newcastle’s players were furious that the goal was allowed to stand after Anthony Gordon was severely challenged moments earlier
A more critical post praised the goal, but fumed that Gordon had not been fouled: ‘What a goal from Bernardo, but it’s really unsportsmanlike that they continued to play while Gordon was down. It should have been a foul too.”
’54 seconds before no foul was called on Gordon and Man City scored. Disgraceful refereeing’, read another similar online post.
Another simply said: ‘Unreal goal but it was clearly a foul on Gordon before that’
Gordon got his revenge when he struck at the other end to draw Newcastle level before Aleksandar Isak added a second before the break.
