Bernabéu-bound Miami Dolphins to play first ever NFL game in Madrid
The Miami Dolphins are one of the teams that will play in Madrid at Bernabéu Stadium next season, the NFL announced Friday.
The Dolphins will be the designated “home team” for what will be the first-ever regular season game in Spain.
“We are thrilled to play the NFL’s first game in Spain, a country rich in history, tradition and passion and home to a vibrant Dolphins fan base,” said Tom Garfinkel, vice chairman, president and CEO of the Dolphins.
The recently renovated Bernabéu is the home of Real Madrid and has a retractable field for American football.
The date of the game and Miami’s opponent will be announced this spring.
The Dolphins and Chicago Bears have marketing rights in Spain as part of the league’s Global Markets Program, which allows teams to host events and make commercial deals in those locations.
