Harrison Butker’s dramatic late field goal sends Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City to the Super Bowl as the 23-20 win breaks the hearts of the Cincinnati Bengals and sets up a showdown with Philly in Arizona
The Kansas City Chiefs earned a hard-fought 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC title game Sunday night to advance to the Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a first down on his badly sprained right ankle, then Joseph Ossai pushed him out of bounds, giving Harrison Butker a chance to kick a 45-yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining that gave Kansas City the win.
The Chiefs finally got the better of the Bengals after three straight losses, including a three-point overtime loss in last year’s conference championship game. Kansas City advanced to play the Philadelphia Eagles in their third Super Bowl in four years.
Mahomes, who hurt his ankle against Jacksonville in the divisional round, threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, despite missing three of his wide receivers with injuries in the fourth quarter.
Márquez Valdés-Scantling led the way with 116 yards and a touchdown, while Travis Kelce, back trouble and all, had seven for 78 yards and a score.
Joe Burrow had 270 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions for Cincinnati. He was fired five times.
