But UEFA revealed that works on Benfica’s Estadio da Luz have rendered the goal-line technology dysfunctional.

In a statement, they said: “In anticipation of the UEFA Champions League match between SL Benfica and Juventus, the home side has – without the knowledge of UEFA and UEFA’s supplier of goal-line technology – commissioned works at the Estadio do SL Benfica, which made it installed goal-line technology system dysfunctional.

“Unfortunately, it will not be possible to replace and install a new system in time for the game and therefore the game will go ahead without the use of goal-line technology under UEFA Champions League rules.”

Benfica is second in the game after four games with eight points – level with PSG. Meanwhile, Juventus need a win to keep their hopes of making it to the last 16 alive.
