Ben White ‘left England’s World Cup camp early because of an alleged BUST-UP with Steve Holland’

Ben White’s departure from the World Cup squad midway through the tournament in Qatar was reportedly due to a break with England assistant manager Steve Holland.

White, 25, did not feature in either of England’s first two group games before leaving camp in Qatar on November 30 for “personal reasons”, the FA said in a statement. He is not expected to return to Qatar and Southgate did not call a replacement, leaving him a man down.

Holland and White had an exchange of words after the defender showed up at a team meeting before the USA game without knowing vital facts about his personal statistics and without information about England’s opponents, according to the report.

A mutual decision was then made to allow White to return home, having played no part in any of England’s matches up to that point.

“We ask that the player’s privacy be respected at this time,” the FA statement said.

The whites were not in the first two games of Group B and also missed the win against Wales

His club then tweeted: “We’re all with you Ben.” Since then, several Arsenal players have posted messages of support for the 25-year-old on social media.

White has also not traveled to the Gunners’ hot-weather mid-World Cup training camp in Dubai.

The defender had started all 14 Premier League games before the World Cup break, helping his team to the top of the table and earning himself a call-up to Southgate’s 26-man squad for Qatar.

Arsenal posted a Tweet in support of White when his departure from the England camp was announced.

Southgate did not replace White, whose fiancée Milly Adams attended the draw with the USA, as he already has defensive cover for first-choice pairing Harry Maguire and John Stones with Conor Coady and Eric Dier.

White has also played at right-back for Arsenal this season, but Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Trent Alexander-Arnold can fill that role for England.

He had not played in any of the England games before flying home from Qatar.

White’s fiancee, Milly Adams, attended the group stage game against the USA on Friday night.

Holland, 52, was an assistant manager at Chelsea before joining the England squad, first with the under-21s and then moving up to the senior team. With England, he has always worked alongside Southgate.

England are currently preparing for Saturday’s quarter-final against France after sweeping Senegal in the round of 16 on Sunday.

White, 25, was a late replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in England’s Euro 2020 squad last summer, playing no role in their run to the final.

Raheem Sterling also left the England camp after his home was burglarized, but the FA confirmed on Thursday that he would return to Qatar.
