The Duchess of Sussex has been dogged by bullying allegations, but has always vehemently denied them.
In June, Buckingham Palace said it had “reviewed” its HR policies following a report on allegations of bullying by Meghan.
But it added that it would never publish the study, with a source claiming at the time: “The household seems terrified of upsetting or provoking Harry and Meghan.”
Allegations surfaced 18 months ago following complaints from staff during a “toxic period” before the couple emigrated in early 2020.
How the 2021 allegations unfolded with a statement from the then Duchess of Sussex saying it was a ‘calculated smear campaign’. Harry and Meghan were reportedly not interviewed as part of the investigation
‘Broken’ royal aides said they felt humiliated, ‘sick’, ‘terrified’, ‘trembling’ with fear and reduced to tears.
Meghan was accused of inflicting “emotional cruelty” on her staff and “chasing them out”. One called the Sussexes “outrageous bullies.”
Lawyers for the Sussexes vehemently denied that the couple bullied or mistreated staff between late 2018 and early 2020.
Meghan then accused them of “perpetuating falsehoods” about her and Harry in their interview with Oprah Winfrey released hours after the allegations emerged in March 2021.
Royal officials announced in March last year that they were launching an investigation into claims that Meghan’s “disparaging” behavior while a working member of the royal family drove two female personal assistants from the household and “undermined the trust of a third.”
Staff are said to have been left in tears and feeling ‘traumatised’ – some compared their condition to post-traumatic stress.
The Royal Family hired an outside law firm, privately paid by the family, to investigate the claims in a move that some predicted would increase tensions between Harry and Meghan and “the institution.”
The allegations have always been vigorously denied by the Duchess, whose lawyers at the time described them as a “calculated smear campaign.” They did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.
Last year, a spokesman for the palace made it clear that the details of the allegations — which were brought to the attention of senior domestic staff at the time by Harry and Meghan’s concerned press secretary, Jason Knauf — would not be investigated.
MailOnline contacted Meghan’s spokespersons but had not received a response at the time of publication.
