World-renowned comedian Ben Elton has argued that cancel culture isn’t a “distance threatening” comedy that keeps saying “exactly what I want,” he says.

In an interview with the BBC, he admitted that it is largely the comedian’s job to “bypass” the changes in clever and interesting ways.

He explained: “I didn’t get canceled, I spoke my mind and yes, I talked about trans and race and identity and we had a lot of laughs.”

“In our modern Twitter world, the radical people you’d like to support are sometimes so in your face that you’d like to say, ‘Well, give me a moment to think about this.'”
Last night, Elton kicked off his Friday Night Live Channel 4 special with a savage dig at Liz Truss, after announcing her resignation as prime minister two days ago.
Ms Truss announced that she would be stepping down as Prime Minister after just 44 days, making her the shortest-term Prime Minister in history.
And of course, Elton couldn’t resist kicking off the much-loved show, as part of Channel 4’s 40th anniversary celebrations, with a jibe at the latest events.
He kicked off his show, saying, ‘In these grim and difficult days, there couldn’t be a better time to spread love and laughter,’ adding, ‘But while we do, please think of poor Liz Truss, who resigned. took yesterday, graciously ending the most senselessly destructive, dazzlingly expensive, ego-driven car crash of a delusional vanity project since Simon Cowell had his facelift project!’

He later joked, “I used to do it with Mrs. Thatch, but I knew she’d still be in power at the end of the program.”
Elton continued, “How did this great nation end up in such a monumental catastrophe?” before replying, ‘Well, we know how… it was the Conservative Party!’
Elton then turned to Boris Johnson for a few digs and joked that he couldn’t get Brexit done in the same way that divorces aren’t easy.
“Blimey, he’s dumped enough Baby Mamas in his time that you’d think he’d have sorted that out, wouldn’t you?!” he said, leaving the viewers in hysterics.
