Hard-working employee threatened to quit after being told the reason why he was given all the nightshifts: ‘Pathetic’

An employee was left stunned after being told by his boss that he was being given all night shifts because he was ‘the least complaining’ of the team.

British career expert Ben Askins read out an anonymous submission detailing text messages exchanged between the man and his manager.

The employee texted the manager asking about the schedule and why he was on night shift all week.

‘Hi, just a quick question. It seems like I’ve been put on the late shift every night this week?’ the worker asked.

The manager replied, “Yes, sorry about that, I know no one wants to do that service and I knew you would least complain if I gave them to you.”

Shocked, the employee said, “That doesn’t make sense, does it?” Can’t we just divide the last shifts between the three of us, as usual?’

But the boss replied, “The last time I put Jamie on the late shift, he complained so much. To be honest, I don’t feel like it.’

“So I’m being punished for not complaining as much?” the employee asked.

The manager said, ‘It’s a compliment mate! You need a lot less maintenance and that’s a good thing.’

‘This is really bulls***. Do you realize that you are actually encouraging me to be more useless?’ the employee replied.

But the manager said, “That’s a very disappointing way to take what I just said.”

And the employee hit back: ‘You should see it from my side. If you force me to do this, I’ll quit.’

Finally the boss said, “Okay, I’ll change it.”

Ben was stunned by the admission and called the boss “pathetic” for the way he handled the situation.

‘What do you think your job is if you don’t have to deal with that as a manager?’ said Ben.

‘What a waste of time. What is he even playing with?’

“The good employees ALWAYS get punished,” one person wrote.

“I was going to be the worst complainer they’d ever seen,” said another.

“Time to start complaining incessantly,” wrote a third.

Someone else said: ‘I would still look for another position.’

But another pointed out that “at least the boss is honest.”
