Veteran talk show host Sally Jessy Raphael has revealed she struggles to get verified on Instagram because they ‘don’t know who she is’.

The 89-year-old former TV star wrote on her social media page that the company would not give her a check despite her providing proof.

The red icon with the glasses said: ‘Instagram won’t give me a blue check mark no matter what proof I send them.

‘AND there is a fake account called “realsallyjr” and that is NOT ME! Help me notify Instagram so we can fix this.’

Fans of the former talk show host said they couldn’t believe the company hadn’t recognized her.

Someone said, “It’s really weird that someone as famous as you has trouble getting recognized.”

While another tagged Instagram and added: ‘The icon, the legend of daytime television, Ms. Sally Jessy Raphael needs her blue check mark. Hello!!!!!’

Her eponymous talk show aired at the height of the tabloid boom in the 1980s and 1990s and ran for 20 seasons.

Raphael’s red frames became her signature look and over the years she amassed a huge inventory of around 200 glasses in the striking colour.

She previously told DailyMail.com: ‘When we started I looked at the teleprompter and I said, “I can’t read that! I’m going blind!”‘

When she was looking for a new prescription, she saw a bizarre ad offering an eye test, glasses and a pap smear – all for the price of one. She thought, why not?

Raphael said during the appointment: ‘That guy obviously tried to trade me [to a more expensive pair]’ and was told they ‘only had this red one.’

Raphael wanted the deal advertised and replied, “You got it. I had to fight to get the glasses. Producers tried to change them. Those shady characters objected to everything.”

Before Raphael became commercially successful, she worked for the Associated Press and United Press International, and for local news on TV and radio.

She previously told DailyMail.com in an exclusive interview that today’s talk shows are more like “game shows.”
