‘Awwww! You will definitely be missed, but I can’t wait to hear what your next adventure is!’

It came shortly after an ITV News legend announced she was quitting the show after a whopping 36 years on screen.

Lucy Meacock, 64, said she was “saying goodbye in silence” after “one of the saddest weeks” – a reference to the tragic stabbing attack in Southport that left three young girls dead.

In her post, she shared a heartbreaking video of families laying flowers at the site of the horrific murders.

Since 1988, she has been a main female presenter on ITV’s regional news programme Granada Reports. In November 2023, at the age of 64, she celebrated her 35th anniversary as a presenter of the programme.

Last month it was confirmed that the popular presenter had decided to ‘move on’ after more than three decades presenting the North West news programme.
