Beloved Australian actress who appeared in Prisoner and Homicide dies aged 93
Beloved Australian actress Barbara ‘Babs’ Wheelton has died at the age of 93 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
The veteran actress was born in London in 1931 and later moved to Australia, where she appeared in several iconic TV shows in the 1960s and 1970s.
Wheelton’s family confirmed her death in a statement on Monday heartbreaking obituary published in The Age.
βIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara (Babs) Wheelton on Sunday, August 18, 2024,β they began.
‘Dearly loved by her family, their husbands, partners and all extended family and dear friends.

The energetic actor was known to viewers for his role as three different characters in the legendary Australian drama Prisoner.
She also appeared in the popular Australian TV series The Sullivans, Cop Shop and Homicide.

Throughout her celebrated career, Wheelton collaborated with many iconic Australian artists including Charles ‘Bud’ Tingwell, Michael Caton and Noni Hazlehurst.
The English-born star also appeared in many radio plays and wrote short stories.
She maintained her own website, where she spoke openly about her career.
Wheelton is survived by her children Simon, Stephanie and Paul, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral took place in Melbourne on Monday, followed by a private cremation.
