Beloved Australian children’s entertainer and actor Marty Morton has died at the age of 82 after a long battle with cancer.
Morton was born in England in 1941 and moved to Australia at a young age, where he began his career as a stage performer and ventriloquist.
The veteran performer was known for his hilarious stage presence and enthusiasm and was a regular guest on the popular 1970s children’s program The Super Flying Fun Show and on Hey Hey it’s Saturday.
He often performed with his mascot puppet Emu and entertained fans across the country with his hilarious and energetic performances.
Morton’s son Terry confirmed the heartbreaking news in a Facebook post.
“It is with great sadness that I must inform you that my father, Marty, passed away on Friday,” he began.
“He almost made it to 83. I love him and will miss him terribly.”
Morton was a regular on Australian television for many years, appearing in many popular shows including Division 4, The Young Doctors, Spyforce, All Saints and The Restless Years.

During his 50-year career in show business, he entertained children and adults alike, and performed with many famous artists, including Hugo Weaving and Georgie Parker.
In 2012, he also starred opposite Claudia Karvan and Susie Porter in the television series Puberty Blues.
Despite his declining health, he was a true professional and continued to entertain fans at the hospital where he was being treated.
Morton’s contributions to show business saw him win the Australian Entertainment Mo Award for Versatile Variety Act of the Year three times, in 1982, 1983 and 1986.
He is survived by his sons Terry and Anthony.
