Adelaide’s beloved pit bull turns on them and attacks family – while their six-year-old was forced to hide in the bathroom

A six-year-old boy was forced to hide in the bathroom while his mother and uncle were brutally mauled by the family’s beloved pit bull.

Colicchie, a Shar Pei-cross pit bull, attacked his owner’s 42-year-old brother and 39-year-old sister at a home in Brompton in Adelaide’s inner west on Tuesday evening.

A family member who did not want to be identified said her daughter was being “dragged around” by the dog, which has been with the family for eight years.

She said her grandson screamed for his mother from the bathroom, even though a two-month-old baby was also in the house at the time.

“She was lying here on the ground and his teeth were in her arm,” she said 9News.

‘She was dragged by the dog, it was terrible. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and I just screamed.”

Colicchie, a Shar Pei-cross pit bull, attacked his owner’s 42-year-old brother and 39-year-old sister at a home in Brompton in Adelaide’s inner west on Tuesday evening.

Hot water was thrown at the dog to stop the attack, after which the woman was able to escape and lock the animal in a bedroom.

She was forced to hold the bedroom door closed as the dog tore at the wood with its teeth and tried to force its way out.

Images of the home show blood on a door handle, the walls and the floor.

Pieces of wood had been torn from the bottom of a door by the dog.

Neighbors who heard the harrowing screams said four police cars arrived at the house around 8.30pm on Tuesday evening.

The family member said police officers present at the scene also appeared scared.

‘I want him put down. “I never want more dogs in my life,” she said.

Four police cars arrived at the house around 8:30 PM on Tuesday.

Paramedics took the two victims to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where they underwent surgery and remained on Wednesday.

Municipal officers seized the unregistered dog from the home.

His owner confirmed the dog will be put down on Thursday.

It comes after a Sydney vet called for a number of dangerous dog breeds to be banned in Australia to prevent fatal attacks on their owners or their families.
