A Belgian football club has released a beer-inspired third kit with the help of their supporters and AI.
OH Leuven released the kit last weekend and was used for the first time in their 1-0 Belgian Pro League win over Mechelen on Sunday.
The strip has a gold bottom with a white top that reflects the foam head of a beer, with diamond patterns on the bottom half of the shirt.
They received help from their supporters to design the shirt, before it was subsequently developed by AI.
Many of their supporters would have indicated that they associated the club with Stella Artois – with the city of Leuven, the birthplace of the famous beer.
Belgium’s OH Leuven has released a beer-inspired third comic, due to the city’s association with Stella Artois
Leuven is the birthplace of Stella Artois and is still brewed in the city today
The beer was first brewed in the city in 1926 and is still brewed in the region to this day and sold in many countries.
Despite the city’s association with Stella Artois, the club does not have a sponsorship deal with the company.
Fans had a major influence on the shirt’s design, because they were asked a number of questions about what it should look like.
A statement about the club website said: ‘For For example, we asked supporters about color, but also type of neck, position of emblem and the slogan in the collar. In addition, many fans indicated that they associated OH Leuven with the beer Stella Artois.
‘With this input from our supporters and with the help of AI, a unique competition shirt was then designed. A gold-colored shirt with a white collar. A big nod to the most famous and appreciated Leuven heritage Stella Artois.’
They wore their new clothes for the first time on Sunday during a 1-0 win over Mechelen
The club said the shirt went up for sale on their website on Sunday, although the number that can be sold is limited.
OH Leuven isn’t the first club to have a beer-inspired comic, as Spanish CD Lugo released one almost a decade ago – as Estrella was a front-of-kit sponsor.
Leuven is twelfth in the league, just one place away from the relegation play-offs of the Belgian Pro League.
