The three top palace advisers who helped broker the ‘Megxit’ deal are nicknamed The Bee, The Fly, and The Wasp in the book.

The trio are believed to be the private secretaries of the top royals at the time; respectively Edward Young, who performed for the Queen, Simon Case, who performed for Prince William, and Clive Alderton for the then Prince Charles.

Harry writes: ‘I spent my life dealing with courtiers, lots of them. But now I was mainly dealing with just three, all middle-aged white men who had managed to consolidate power through a series of daring Machiavellian maneuvers.

They had normal names… but they are more easily classified into zoological categories. The bee, the fly and the wasp. The bee was oval-faced and hairy and tended to glide with great equanimity and poise, as if it were a blessing to all living things.

The Fly had “spent much of his career alongside, and indeed attracted to, s***”. The spoils of government and the media and wormy innards, he loved it, he grew fat on it, he rubbed his hands together with glee.

Harry said of The Wasp: “Because he seemed so rude, so modest, you might be tempted to back off, press your point, and that’s when he put you on his list.”

‘A short time later, without warning, it would stab you so hard with its huge stinger that you would cry in confusion. Where the hell did that come from?
