Beauty guru reveals different ways to use up skincare and hair products that you REGRET buying
A beauty guru has revealed exactly how to get the most out of the skincare and body products you might regret buying.
The tips were shared in a TikTok video posted this week by the New York-based creator Carly Rivlinwho often posts beauty and fashion content online and shares tips, tricks and product reviews.
In the video, Rivlin explained how to repurpose products you might not be thrilled with – starting with shampoos.
“First, if you have a shampoo you don’t like, it didn’t work for you. My favorite way is first as a makeup brush cleanser,” she began. “I actually learned this hack from a professional makeup artist.”
In a new video on TikTok, content creator Carly Rivlin revealed how to reuse beauty products you regret buying
The beauty guru explained how to reuse and use products like shampoo, conditioner and facial lotions
The content creator explained that the shampoo can be used for other items besides makeup brushes.
“Sometimes I also use a shampoo that I’m not obsessed with to wash certain things by hand in the sink,” Rivlin continued.
“Hair scrunchies, headbands, things like that, where I don’t necessarily have to put them in the washing machine because they might fall apart, and I don’t want to use my expensive, delicate hand-washing stuff — I’ll just use shampoo.”
Also in the hair care category, Rivlin offered some ideas for saving hair oils, conditioners and masks.
“You can use it as a hair treatment,” Rivlin explained, pointing to her bun. “It’s in my hair now. It’s not necessarily a slick-back, but I just use a ton of the product and create a little hair treatment mask in my hair.”
She revealed that when she used the hair products in a different way than what they were intended for, she would end up liking them.
“If something isn’t conditioning enough, I use as much of it in the treatment as I like,” she explained.
Alternatively, if something is “too conditioning,” she uses it as a deep conditioning hair mask and puts her hair up in a bun before the treatment.
When it comes to using a shampoo you don’t like, Rivlin recommended rethinking it as a makeup brush cleanser

Next on the list? Skin care products you want to use.
Rivlin ordered them to be exchanged and used as body products instead.
“For moisturizers, if it’s super rich, way too rich for my face — I don’t even know why I bought it — I use it on my feet,” the influencer admitted.
“I use it on my knees, I use it on my elbows, it’s such a nice way to apply moisturizer.”
She also recommended using serums intended for your face on your chest instead.
“You can use it all over your body,” Rivlin advised, before adding that when she uses it on her décolleté, she feels like she’s seeing the benefits.
Last but not least, Rivlin had a genius hack for using body cleansers and facial cleansers that didn’t work when they served their original purpose.
“Use them to clean your makeup brushes,” the beauty guru said simply.
In the comments section of her video, some users shared the creative methods they use to reuse the products they don’t like.
Rivlin also recommended using strong face creams on other parts of the body, such as the feet and knees
In the comments section of her TikTok video, many users revealed how they reuse their own beauty products that they don’t like
‘Use conditioners that you don’t like to shave! Also highlighters that you don’t like on your face as body highlighter on your décolleté/shoulders,” someone wrote.
Another advised: ‘Snail slime didn’t work on my face but I use it on my legs after shaving as a serum before lotion!!’
“I use shampoo I don’t like on my nail brush to clean my nails,” someone else commented.
One person even offered, “If it’s still within 30 days, you can return used beauty products to Ulta and Sephora for a full refund.”
