When it comes to sunscreen, which should be applied every day, even if it’s cloudy, Dr. Sam recommends that you use two fingers on your face.

Dr. Sam said you should go for a broad-spectrum product that blocks the sun’s UVA and UVB rays, and make sure you don’t forget those unlikely places like behind your ears and neck.

For the moisturizer, your fingertip will suffice, and the same goes for day and night serums.

“When you’re cleansing, I recommend using up to two pounds or a 50-cent piece,” said Dr. Sam.

Finally, with the eye cream, you only need a pea-sized amount—”Think little peas,” added Dr. Sam.

According to Dr. Sam (pictured), if you want to look your best and radiant on vacation, you should start a good vacation-ready skincare regimen a fortnight in advance.

Thousands of people who saw the post were shocked by her advice, with many saying in particular that they use too little sunscreen:

“Shit I really use very little sunscreen but why are brands selling 50ml volumes of face sunscreen then?” wrote one commenter.

Another added: “If I used that much, it would just sit on my skin and/or cause it to break out (yes, even if I DID apply thin layers and try to really work it in),” added another.

According to Dr. Sam, if you want to look your best and radiant on vacation, you should start a good vacation-ready skin care regimen a fortnight in advance.

She starts with Neostrata Lotion Plus 15%, which she uses twice a day until her trip.

The dermatologist swears that this helps “minimize the rough bumps that can appear on the thighs and the backs of the arms.”

In addition to Neostrata Lotion, Dr. Sam said she also sprays Sesderma Azelac Lotion all over her face and applies St Tropez’s Gradual Tan Mousse for a subtle, gradual glow.

“I wear it with a glove for a few days to get that milky blue Irish thing off my legs,” she said in a video on the subject.

Your holiday skin care doesn’t stop once you board your plane.

In fact, Dr. Sam said it should only increase at this point.

“If I’m going to take an overnight flight, say to Thailand, I’ll pack everything I need to survive the ordeal of air travel, which means dry air that will promote outbreaks,” he said.

In the dermatologist’s bag of tricks, Dr. Sam said she includes “basics” like cotton pads, cotton swabs, and a bottle of Bioderma micellar water, which she decants to take with her.

“I always remove any trace of makeup as soon as I get on board,” said Dr. Sam.

After this, use a strong moisturizer to ensure you have adequate hydration on board. For this, Dr. Sam prefers her own Dr Sam Flawless Moisturizer.

She even said that she touches up on board every time she wakes up from a dream and feels like her skin isn’t as hydrated as it used to be.

“I don’t interrupt my nightly routine for anything,” Dr. Sam added, which means she’ll also bring a retinoid to make sure her skin looks its best.

Usually for this, Dr. Sam said she will use Dr. Sam’s flawless night serum.

To keep your lips hydrated, trust Bioderma Atoderm Lip Stick.

As long as you’ve applied “your demon-like moisturizer,” Dr. Sam said you should look “wetter than when you left” once you land at your destination.

To make sure the holiday glow stays put, she swears by a “little bit of makeup” upon landing.

The best products to use in this capacity are Nars’ famous Radiant Creamy Concealer, Stila’s Convertible Color blush, Lipstick Queen Nothing But The Truth lipstick, and Kevyn Aucoin’s Brunette Brow Pencil to fill in brows.

“I tend to travel with creamy textures; I tend to find them easier both on the plane and upon arrival,” said Dr. Sam.
