Beachgoers were amazed to see the huge ALLIGATOR basking in the sun as it swims in the ocean off Alabama Island

  • Video shows a huge alligator off the coast of an Alabama island over the weekend
  • The video was shot on Dauphin Island, a small town in the Gulf of Mexico

Shocking photos and video show an alligator chilling out on an Alabama beach in the Gulf of Mexico, just steps away from beachgoers.

In a post on Facebook, a man shared the reptile’s grabs in the great water, along with a short clip of the animal wading along the shore.

“The things you think you’ll never see,” Matt Harvill wrote on Facebook. “First time I saw an alligator on Dauphin Island. On the way to the western end, be careful.’

Harvill said the gator seemed mostly curious, but the video has startled some beachgoers. However, others say it won’t affect their beach trips.

“I’d probably still go in the water,” said beachgoer Noah Knight. “Nowhere in the area where the gator is, but probably still.”

According to Harvill’s post, the gator ended up on the beach this weekend.

“It was just a really nice day — my girlfriend and I were spending some time on the beach when someone talked about it,” Harvill said.

So we walked down to take a closer look and take some pictures. It’s not every day something like this happens,” he continued.

“We see them in Dog River and the Bird Sanctuary. Hardly ever so in the Gulf. I knew if I didn’t take pictures no one would ever believe it,” said Harvill.

Experts say the best things to do if you encounter an alligator is to take extra precautions and not feed them.

Commentators on Harvill’s post shared their thoughts on the video and photos, with reactions ranging from shock to genuine disbelief.

“Looks like he’s having a good time,” one person joked.

“I think he’s not afraid of sharks,” added another.

“I hope he doesn’t go to church,” one of them remarked.

The sight is unusual considering that alligators are typically freshwater creatures.

They are also better known for inhabiting swampy areas rather than beaches.

Despite this, Dauphin Island Sea Lab officials said there have been sightings with the creatures in the past.

“Alligators are not uncommon on Dauphin Island, although they don’t tolerate salt water very well,” the marine lab said. ALREADY. com.

“So if one is loitering on the beach, it could be that he came out of the freshwater ponds or made his way after a rainfall,” the email read.
