The fourth traitor has finally been revealed after the first episode of series two ended on a huge cliffhanger.

Veterinary nurse Miles, 36, from Birmingham, has been chosen as the fourth and final traitor – with fans branding him an 'unexpected' choice.

During the launch show on Wednesday, host Claudia Winkleman, 51, announced Harry, Ash and Paul as the three chosen Traitors.

The other 19 contestants will remain as Faithfuls and will have to try to find out who they think could be a traitor before they are killed – cut from the show.

However, the Traitors took on a completely different light this season and were tasked with choosing a fourth Traitor to join their clan – but their identities were not revealed as it ended on a dramatic cliffhanger.

Although the trio narrowed down the choice between Andrew, Diane, Miles or Sonja to join them, viewers had to wait until Thursday's episode to find out who was chosen.

Miles said to the camera after the reveal, “I'm a traitor, you fool!”

He then said to the other three traitors, “I had no idea it would be those three who chose me. Stunned!'

Traitor Miles said before going on the show that he has been living the “cookie cutter” life by having a husband, going to college and starting a family, and thinks this will be a change.

He said, “I went to school, went to college, got my degree, found my husband, had a family. I just thought I had done everything so 'correctly'.

'When I saw the show I thought it was very clever, very different. It was nicely done. I like that the show has normal, everyday people.

“There will be times when you get into arguments with people because we get so involved in the roles we play. It's just that I'm playing a role.

'As long as my nearest and dearest know that, it makes me feel a little better. It's not real life.'

Miles said when he told his mother he was doing TV, she said it was OK “as long as it's not something like Love Island.”

And on what he would spend the prize money on, he said: 'Lots of plastic surgery! No, I'm joking.

“What I really want is to get our forever home. I would like to pay off our debts and live in our forever home and really put down roots.

'Although everything is fine as it is, it would be wonderful to continue with that and live somewhere in the country.'

The opening episode of the second series of Traitors attracted a whopping 3.1 million viewers when it returned to the BBC on Wednesday evening.

The show, which aired from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m., peaked at about 3.1 million viewers, according to data from overnachtingen.tv.

The numbers are likely to rise further on iPlayer in the coming days as many who watched live could have instead tuned in to watch the PDC World Darts Championship featuring phenom Luke Littler.

It's a significant increase on viewership of last year's opening episode, which attracted 2.9 million viewers.

The opening episode of series two also received the second highest rating to date for the show overall – only slightly behind the series one finale.

That finale was watched by 3.3 million people as the show came to a dramatic conclusion.

Aubrey, 57, from Loughborough, Leicestershire, was the first player to be 'killed off' in season 2.

Traitors Ash, Miles, Paul and Harry decided that the retired shop owner was a little too observant, which made them feel uneasy.
