BBC presenter Gabby Logan leaves viewers shocked after using expletive phrase to describe Team USA’s botched 4x100m final

  • The US was brought down by yet another failed handover of the baton in the race
  • Logan was criticized by some on social media for her choice of words

BBC Sports presenter Gabby Logan is under fire after she swears twice in quick succession during a broadcast.

The controversial moment came when the sports reporter was covering the disastrous 4x100m relay race in the United States.

The US were the heavy favorites to take home the gold, but a botched baton handover saw the team quickly drop in the rankings and eventually be disqualified.

After the race, Logan, 51, discussed the US’s dreadful performance with BBC Athletics experts Jessica Ennis-Hill and Michael Johnson.

A replay of the failed handover was soon shown, which Logan described as a “f**k-up.”

Logan used the phrase again when she wanted to know Johnson’s opinion on the race, which left many people on social media puzzled.

On X, @DarrenSymons posted: ‘Can Gabby Logan call the relay problems for Team USA a complete blunder?’

@EgWarren673 added: ‘Did Gabby Logan just describe the US handover as a ‘c**k-up’ on the BBC or did I hear wrong?’

The swear word Logan used is classified as crude by the Cambridge dictionary.

However, there was no apology from the presenter, despite the incident happening before the broadcaster’s 9pm watershed.

For Logan it may have been a moment to quickly forget, but for the Americans it was certainly a race to quickly forget.

The disqualification meant their 4x100m men’s gold medal drought lasted 20 years. Their last gold medal in this event came at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
