BBC Morning Live viewers are left baffled as they are told how to cook the ‘perfect’ poached egg – as fans blast the ‘unnecessary’ and time-consuming instructions

BBC Morning Live viewers were baffled this week by instructions on how to make the ‘perfect’ poached egg.

Chef Julie Lin headed to the kitchen as hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley looked on.

She told viewers that the best way to make a poached egg with a nice, runny yolk is to mix two parts water with one part vinegar.

In a surprising move, she told people to break the eggs into the mixture of cold water and vinegar.

The next stage was to let the eggs ‘harden’ for 15 minutes – all before the eggs were even cooked.

Julie then fished around trying to get the smooth eggs out of the water without breaking the (still raw) yolk.

Finally, she boiled them in boiling water for two minutes and proudly showed off the results.

However, fans were left unimpressed with both her method and her results, with one calling them ‘smooth and undercooked’.

Another said: ‘Perfect? I do not think so!’

Another viewer gave his own advice: ‘So unnecessary. There is so much advice about vinegar, water temperature, pan size etc.

‘It’s all nonsense. I stuck with the advice someone once gave me and it has worked every time. Just use the freshest eggs. That is it.’

Another TV viewer said the method was ‘wasteful’ and suggested it was too time-consuming.

They said: ’15+ minutes to cook poached eggs plus a waste of vinegar. Just poach an egg the way normal people poach them. Talk about reinventing the wheel,” as someone else exclaimed, “What a lot of unnecessary hassle!”
