BBC host Lauren Laverne, 46, reveals she’s cancer free in major health update and will be back on TV in a matter of days as she declares: ‘Life is beautiful’
Lauren Laverne revealed on Sunday that she is cancer-free and will be back presenting BBC’s The One Show on Tuesday.
The broadcaster, 46, posted the news on her Instagram alongside a beaming selfie in which she proudly wore a jumper that read: ‘Life is beautiful’.
Lauren revealed in August that the cancer was “detected early and unexpectedly during a screening test” and that she was expected to make a full recovery.
Now she has paid tribute to the hospital staff and her “amazing children” and “absolutely extraordinary” husband Greame in a lengthy statement.
She wrote: ‘Hi there! Just a quick update from me to say that after taking some time off to get better, I’ve got the all clear and will be back at work on your TV on Tuesday with the amazing @bbctheoneshow team.

‘I’ve also been working on some new #DesertIslandDiscs episodes (airing soon @BBCRadio4 @BBCSounds) and look forward to returning to @BBC6Music in the new year.’
She continued: I would like to say a huge thank you to the brilliant medical teams who looked after me so well, the thousands of people who sent me such beautiful and encouraging messages, the friends and acquaintances who took the time to support me afterwards. going through cancer yourself
‘And especially to my family: my two wonderful children and especially my husband Graeme, who was absolutely extraordinary throughout.’
‘It has been a difficult time, but one that has taught me so much about what really matters. I can’t say that I suddenly regret never having hiked the Inca Trail, more that I now see more beauty in ordinary things than I could have imagined, and feel more than ever that the little things in life life – the connections we make and care about with each other – are those actually the big things?

At the time, she had written a post on Instagram saying she was in hospital, praising the “incredible skill and kindness” of the medical teams who helped her.
She had also thanked colleagues from her respective BBC shows for their ‘support’ and ‘for giving me the time off I need to get better’.
It is understood her last appearance on BBC1’s The One Show was on August 13 and she last presented her 6 Music show on August 15.
Desert Island Discs was on hiatus when she revealed the news of her diagnosis, but since the show returned in September, old episodes have been airing.
On December 1 there will be a new episode of the Radio 4 program with comedian Mark Steel, which was recorded before Lauren took time off.
But it is understood she will be filming Christmas episodes of the show with guests in the coming weeks.
A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Lauren back to the studio for The One Show and Desert Island Discs this month, with new episodes airing on Radio 4 from December 1, and we look forward to seeing Lauren again welcome to BBC Radio. 6 Music in the new year.’
Lauren was brought to Desert Island Discs in 2018 as cover for then presenter Kirsty Young, who was dealing with her own health issues at the time, before later becoming the permanent presenter.
