BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay hit back at his co-host Sally Nugent on Monday morning’s show during an awkward conversation during a segment about weight.

The TV presenter, 51, turned a red face with embarrassment after her co-presenter, 53, caught her watching him refer to overweight men.

Jon and Sally discussed a story that claimed that men who consume more eggs are happier, according to a recent study.

When discussing a recent study that found that more aggressive men appeared to be fatter and heavier, Sally glanced at Jon during the conversation.

She said: ‘Apparently eating eggs, especially for men, can make you less angry,” to which Jon jokingly exclaimed, “What!”

She continued, “Jon is never angry, never, never.

‘They studied 168 men, aged 35 to 55, who had received regression counseling through work, on diets that were compared to those of colleagues who had not been referred.

“The more aggressive men turned out to be fatter and heavier.”

When he noticed Sally looking at him, Jon hit back and said, “Sorry, but then you looked at me!”

Sally awkwardly joked, “I didn’t know where to look, that’s all!” If you had more protein in your eggs, you would be happier.”

Jon ended the segment saying, “Okay, we’ll leave it at that.”

However, the comment seemed to play through Jon’s mind as he struggled to get his words out to present the next news item.

Discussing another article, he said: ‘A family who run a pub in Kent are selling – they’ve got 8,500 teapots to get rid of, so it’s another breakfast theme.
