BBC Breakfast viewers bemoan ‘slow’ news day as the programme presents coverage from a ‘boring’ pub

BBC Breakfast viewers have complained about the show’s ‘slow’ news day as it reported from a ‘boring’ pub.

During the Saturday program, presenters Naga Munchetty and Roger Johnson switched to reporter Oli Constable, where he moderated a segment on a community cafe.

In the early morning, Oli appeared at The Ickleford Lion, in Saffron Walden, which he said had been saved from closure by local residents who, along with overseas shareholders, had raised £440,000 for the venue.

Oli then ventured inside and proceeded to interview a number of customers, who had ventured into the watering hole at 7am to discuss the future of the pub.

However, despite being a feel-good story, viewers at home took offense to the segment and also to X for sharing their opinions.

One person thought the news item was more appropriate for ITV’s This Morning, noting that news often comes ‘slowly’ during the festive period.

They shared: ‘I know it’s the Christmas holidays and news is generally a bit slow coming, but a ‘pub rescue’ is more appropriate for #ThisMorning than #BBCBreakfast’

While another had an issue with the property itself, as they wrote: ‘Doesn’t look like a pub, just popped on the telly with a free cup of coffee.’

While a third onlooker was far from impressed with what they saw, he added: ‘The most boring pub in England.’

It comes after BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood blushed after being pulled in for a kiss live on air on Monday.

The presenter, 62, was completely stunned by the surprise gesture in the middle of her broadcast and revealed to viewers that she had not expected it at all.

Carol was presenting the weather report in London when what appeared to be a passer-by, wearing a coat and Santa hat, walked up to the camera and pulled her in for a hug.

The reporter was telling Jon Kay and Sally Nugent, who were live in studio, that it was a beautiful scene in Covent Garden, surrounded by falling fake snow.

Carol said: ‘It’s really falling now… It’s fantastic.’

Sally joked: ‘How did you do that? I always knew you had special powers, but that’s another level.”

Then Carol, who wore mistletoe for her festive report, admitted it hadn’t worked so far, saying: “My mistletoe didn’t do any tricks this morning.”

Suddenly a man appeared and took Carol for a surprise hug before giving her a kiss.

And Carol was seemingly unprepared for the hug as she gasped, “Oh, I say… Tim.”

Sally and Jon giggled as they watched the interruption, but Carol assured viewers that everything was fine and that the man in question was not a stranger, but in fact her colleague.

She said to Sally and Jon, “That’s Tim, our scientific engineer. We are good friends. I didn’t expect that!’

Jon teased the star, noting she was blushing while Sally cheekily said: ‘No, she’s not. Although I’m sure they’re really good friends now!’.
