BBC Breakfast is hit by a technical blunder during an interview as viewers complain about ‘dreadful’ sound

BBC Breakfast was apparently hit by a technical blunder during an interview with eight-year-old Stevie, an aspiring singer, on Tuesday morning’s show.

The programme, which aired without regular presenter Jon Kay for the second day in a row, saw stand-ins Ben Thompson and Sally Nugent chatting to Stevie and his father.

The father and son duo, who live in Kilkenny in Ireland, were invited on the show to talk about Stevie’s impressive performance of the Irish rugby anthem during the Six Nations match between Ireland and Italy on Sunday.

However, when Stevie and his father tried to discuss the life-changing moment, their voices were muffled by a technical glitch that interrupted the interview.

During the remote interview, which was conducted via video link, they encountered audio issues that irritated viewers at home.

The sound kept cutting out, meaning viewers struggled to hear what the young interviewee was saying during the segment.

At one point, host Sally looked surprised and seemed to try to get a better idea of what Stevie was saying.

Fans admitted they were disappointed to miss the interview due to poor audio and took to X to share their grievances.

One said: ‘Are your sound/tech team free today? The audio of some of your interviews is terrible.”

While another added: ‘What’s going on with the noise this morning?’

Jon Kay was unable to appear on the show for the second day in a row and his absence has yet to be explained.

Ben has been present several times since the start of the year, with Carol Kirkwood presenting the weather updates.

Earlier this week it was announced that fellow presenter Ben Boulos will return to the screens after his month-long absence.

The program has seen a shake-up among presenters in recent weeks, with Naga Munchetty also taking a break from the show.

Ben, 39, who changed his surname in 2021 to reflect his heritage, has been traveling to the United States.

The newsreader visited New York, New Orleans and Washington DC, but has now returned to the iconic red sofa.

His co-star Naga is also back on screen after an absence of several weeks, with Sally replacing her.

Last month, BBC Ben was interrupted live on television by a man who mistook him for an employee.

The presenter, who was wearing a hi-vis jacket, was presenting a clip from a market hall in Birmingham when the hilarious encounter took place.

Last month, BBC Ben was interrupted live on television by a man who mistook him for an employee

A confused-looking man was seen wandering behind Ben, talking about food price inflation in the run-up to Christmas.

While in mid-stream, the man walks up to Ben and asks him something, to which he replies, “I don’t work here, I just report the news!”

From the BBC studio in Salford, presenter Jon Kay thanked Ben for fitting his reporting into his ‘service to the market’.

Ben later reshared the moment on X, formerly known as Twitter, much to the delight of his followers who laughed at the accident.

In the comments section, his fans posted a series of laughing emojis and jokes, including one who wrote: ‘Always good to have something to fall back on Ben!’

Another person labeled the moment as ‘more breakfast TV gold’, referencing similar blunders that have occurred over the years.
