And Baz Luhrmann, 60, did little to dispel the rumors during a live interview with Sunrise on Wednesday.
The iconic Australian director, whose Elvis biopic is the subject of Oscars buzz, looked unrecognizable compared to his former self, displaying an unlined complexion and unusually plump cheeks.
His face seemed unnaturally bright, while his jawline seemed noticeably more pronounced than it had been during his formative years in the spotlight.
The star’s face bore only a passing resemblance to the Baz who rose to fame in the 1992 hit film Strictly Ballroom.

While his appearance may have changed, the high caliber of his work remains the same.

His latest film, Elvis, has been nominated for an Oscar in multiple categories, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography, and Best Film Editing.
The wife of Luhrmann’s creative director, Catherine Martin, who designed the costumes and sets for the biopic, also earned three Oscar nominations for her work on the film.
Meanwhile, the film’s lead, Austin Butler, is up for the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Elvis Presley.
In June of last year, Luhrmann hinted that he plans to retire following the release of Elvis, saying Australian variety: ‘I’m at a point in my journey where I’m like, would you bother doing another movie?’
