Baylee Ryan: Mother’s heartbreak after her son took his own life in Bray Park, Queensland

Tributes are pouring in for a teenager who tragically took his own life this week, just one day before he was due to start a new job.

Baylee Ryan, 18, died in the Moreton Bay suburb of Bray Park in southeast Queensland on Monday afternoon.

His heartbroken mother Tracy Ryan said she was ‘lost for words’ after receiving the devastating news.

“I received absolutely devastating news this afternoon that I wish wasn’t real,” Ms. Ryan wrote on Facebook.

‘I’m still processing it all and I don’t want to believe it.

“He was amazing and talented in so many ways and it’s a real shame.

“I know everyone who ever met him was touched in some way, he was just that amazing.

‘Your smile will be in my heart forever. I love you forever and ever BAYLEE.”

Ms Ryan told Daily Mail Australia he would start working at Hungry Jack’s on Tuesday.

“He was a wonderful young man who was always happy as a young child and grew up with a beautiful smile on his face,” she said.

‘He was much loved by his friends and family and was always active, well-behaved and respectful.

‘I always received compliments for his good behavior and manners.’

It is understood that Baylee had been suffering from depression for several years but had plans to attend college to pursue a career in science or engineering.

Mrs Ryan added that she had been in a previous abusive relationship which had had a profound impact on her son, forcing them to live on the streets for a short time.

Baylee’s partner also posted a tribute on social media, asking if anyone living near Bray Park train station could leave flowers in his honour.

“He didn’t have many friends or family he was close to who would mourn his passing other than me so I hope you can join me in mourning him, I don’t want him to be forgotten,” they wrote .

“Baylee was very sweet and gentle, but he struggled with things like this for a few years.

“I’m so sorry Baylee, I’ll miss you forever.”

Since Baylee’s death, several bouquets of flowers have been left at the station.

Other tributes from loved ones have poured in.

“Baylee was a beautiful, kind and smart young man. If you need anything please let me know,” one person wrote.

‘I’m going there today and putting down some flowers and candles. I’m thinking of you x.’

Another wrote that “our hearts ache with the devastating news of your precious son Baylee.”

“Bay was such a sweet soul, he loved the times we had during his and Camdyn’s thirteen year friendship that we will forever cherish the memories we made,” she wrote.

“May you feel no more pain, Bay.”

Ms Ryan told the Courier Mail she wanted other young people struggling with their mental health to ‘speak out’.

“Even if it’s uncomfortable, just speak up and tell someone what you’re going through,” she said.

According to the advice service Lifeline, more than eight Australians die by suicide every day, with men accounting for three-quarters of that death toll, which is twice as many as those killed on roads.
