Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies recorded the top speed of any player in last season’s Champions League.
UEFA has released the figures from the 2022-2023 season, and it places Davies clear of his counterparts in Europe’s elite club competition.
The Canadian full-back has been widely recognized as one of the fastest players in football in recent years, and he now has the numbers to live up to it after hitting a 37.1 pace in a group stage match against eventual finalist Inter Milan last season. km/h reached.
Davies was closely followed by Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukrainian striker has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge since his £88m move in January, but had no such problems at previous club Shakhtar Donestsk.
He was in full flight as Shakhtar drew 1-1 against Celtic last October, clocking a speed of 36.7km/h during the match.

Mudryk’s speed was matched by Ousmane Dembele, who recently joined PSG from Barcelona.
Mudryk is not the only Premier League player to feature in UEFA’s roster, which includes 11 players.
Arsenal’s Nuno Tavares hit 36.5km/h during his loan spell at Marseille, and Moussa Diaby, who arrived at Aston Villa that summer, was just a little slower at 36.4km/h while playing for Bayer Leverkusen .
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai also crossed the finish line at 36.3km/h during his time at RB Leipzig.
None of the four Premier League stars are likely to have a chance to re-list this season as Chelsea, Liverpool and Villa have all failed to qualify for the Champions League, while Tavares has been linked with an exit at Arsenal after finding himself again. in the pecking order of Mikel Arteta’s selection.
Elsewhere on the list, Rafael Leao of AC Milan took fourth place with a speed of 36.7 km/h. He played a key role in his side’s run to the semi-finals before they were knocked out by city rivals Inter.
He was just ahead of Gabriel Veron of Porto and Fede Valverde, midfielder of Real Madrid (both 36.2 km/h).
Borussia Dortmund youngster Karim Adeyemi (36.4mph) and Benfica’s Rafa Silva (36.3mph) rounded out the list.

Dominik Szoboszlai has also established himself quickly at Liverpool and has a lot of pace
Interestingly, neither Kylian Mbappé nor Kyle Walker made the top 11.
Both players are regarded as two of the fastest players in football and put up a fascinating battle in last year’s World Cup quarter-final between France and England, but failed to reach the top speed to make them on this list.
Walker’s Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland was another surprising omission as he previously went viral for racing onto the pitch to end the counter-attacks.
He finished as the top scorer in the Champions League in 2022/23 with twelve goals, but was not among the fastest players in the competition.
