Bayern Munich were considering a move for struggling Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk at the end of the January transfer window.

The Ukrainian striker moved to west London just over a year ago after being the subject of an intense bidding war between the Blues and London rivals Arsenal.

Mudryk eventually signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract worth £88 million, but his start at Stamford Bridge was uneven at best.

The 23-year-old has made 18 Premier League appearances during the 2023/2024 season, scoring three goals and providing another three assists, but performances in all competitions have fluctuated between promising and ineffective.

But Mudryk was the subject of interest in the transfer window from abroad – and from a recent former Chelsea head coach.

From The AthleticsBavarian giants included Mudryk in their thinking as they prepared to sign a loan to provide cover in the wake of Kingsley Coman suffering a torn medial collateral ligament at the weekend.

But Mudryk was later excluded from the selection process as the perennial Bundesliga champions switched focus to signing Granada’s Bryan Zaragoza on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old forward later joined the club as the window began to close on Thursday on a deal worth an estimated £12 million.

However, Chelsea lost one first-team player to a loan deal elsewhere, with Armando Broja – who has made 13 league appearances this season – signing for postcode rivals Fulham late on transfer deadline day.

Mudryk will instead remain with the Blues and try to lift them up the Premier League table after their 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool in midweek hampered their burgeoning progress at Anfield.

The Blues have the chance to bounce back quickly in their match against Wolves at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, where they remain unbeaten in ten games.

Wolves will be looking for their own revenge after taking all three points in the final from Manchester United, who recorded a late 4-3 victory on Thursday thanks to a 97th-minute winner from teenage star Kobbie Mainoo.
