Bayern Munich try to take Arsenal by surprise with a quick throw-in restart while NINE players take drinks as Bukayo Saka gets treatment… but referee pulls them back

Bayern Munich tried to catch Arsenal off guard with a quick restart after a throw-in, while nine Gunners players had a drinks break on the touchline.

Wednesday night’s Champions League quarter-final play was abandoned in the first half due to a minor injury to Bukayo Saka, and many of Arsenal’s outfield stars – and some Bayern players – had a drink as the Gunners received instructions from Mikel Arteta .

Joshua Kimmich’s second-half header gave the German side a 1-0 win that evening and 3-2 success on aggregate, reaching the semi-final against Real Madrid.

Just 35 minutes into the match at the Allianz Arena, Bayern tried to be sneaky and take a throw-in, with many Arsenal players out of position, after the match was briefly halted after Saka was hit in the face with the ball.

Left back Noussair Mazraoui sprinted with the ball towards David Raya’s goal after the hosts’ unexpected action.

Martin Odegaard was standing on the sidelines with his teammates when he noticed Bayern’s move and tried to urge his colleagues to get back on the field to defend.

However, the trick didn’t work, with the referee quickly blowing his whistle to restart play, much to the frustration of the Bayern players.

It forced them to start the process again from the throw-in, this time with everyone back in the right place.

Some fans felt that the incident was disrespectful to Arsenal, although it is unlikely that a goal or seriously positive play would have been allowed without the referee’s approval.

When dividing the final score on X (formerly Twitter) Arsenal wrote: ‘A Champions League journey to be proud of’, but it was not a sentiment shared by everyone.

While the Gunners finished top of their group last year, some questioned the caliber of their opponents, as well as the narrow win over Porto in the last 16 on penalties.
