Bayern Munich chief admits to ‘difficult’ contract negotiations with Jamal Musiala, as Man United and Man City eye moves for the German star

Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has said it is “difficult” to agree a new contract with Manchester United and Manchester City target Jamal Musiala.

Musiala joined Bayern in 2019 after leaving Chelsea, but a return to the Premier League is being discussed.

Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the 21-year-old German international, who has a contract with Bayern until 2026.

Both the Manchester and Madrid clubs appear to have received a boost in their pursuit of Musiala, with Eberl admitting that Bayern are not yet close to agreeing new terms with the attacking midfielder.

“It’s difficult, but not impossible – because Jamal knows what he has in store at Bayern Munich,” Eberl said Sport1 when discussing the prospect of Musiala extending his stay in Germany.

“He grew up here and brought himself to this level. The talks are intensifying. We are extremely ambitious and he knows he wants to win titles.”

Musiala’s wage demands are reportedly one of the stumbling blocks to a new deal, with him demanding £300,000-a-week, which would put him on the same salary as Harry Kane.

Musiala spoke out about his future earlier this summer, stressing that he is happy at Bayern, but he did not rule out a future move.

“I am very happy at FC Bayern and am fully focused on our goals with the club and the national team,” he said.

‘I don’t think so much about where I’ll be playing in five years. Things can always change quickly in the world of football.’

Musiala won the Bundesliga title four times with Bayern, but the German giants missed out on the title last season as they finished third behind major champions Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

They have started this season in excellent form, winning their first three games under new manager Vincent Kompany.

Musiala already has two goals and an assist to his name but has not yet committed his future at Bayern, giving potential buyers hope that he could be snapped up from the club in the next 12 months.
