Battered like a Mars bar! Fans mock Scotland’s dire start to Euro 2024 with series of memes as they joke that Steve Clarke’s side have ‘given up’ and give Simpsons comparison
Football fans have mocked Scotland in a series of memes following their disastrous start to Euro 2024.
The Scots, led by Steve Clarke, went into the tournament with high expectations, but it seems less than ten minutes before their ambitions will be shattered as Florian Wirtz puts the host nation ahead.
Jamal Musiala added a second minutes later and Ryan Porteous saw red after charging into Ilkay Gundogan in an attempt to save a goal.
Kai Havertz scored the penalty and Germany went into half-time 3-0 up, much to the amusement of some fans on social media who wasted no time in producing memes to mock the Scots.
Some supporters joked that the side was ‘battered like a Mars bar’, a traditional dish in Scotland where the famous chocolate bar is deep-fried and covered in batter.

Another post compared Scotland’s apparent pre-match mentality to that at full-time, including an image of a Scottish warrior
“Scotland is like a Mars bar in a Glasgow chippy and is getting totally battered,” one fan wrote.
Another wrote: ‘What do the Scottish football team and Scottish Mars bars have in common? Battered.’
Elsewhere, a meme of a Scottish warrior was shared, with the caption: ‘8pm’, followed by a photo of a man saying: ‘It’s s***e Being Scottish’, with the caption: ’10pm. ‘
An account on Scotland.’
A third shared a viral video of The Chase, with chaser Mark Labbett exclaiming during the show: “It doesn’t matter, I give up, well played guys.” The caption read: ‘Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign.’
Elsewhere, the situation was compared to a story once shown on the popular sitcom The Simpsons, in which the Scottish character Groundskeeper Willie looked dejected next to a newspaper with the headline: ‘Damned Germans.’

Another post played on the idea that England’s rivals often support the teams the Three Lions face
Things got even worse for Germany in the second half, when Niclas Fullkrug scored a stunner to make it 4-0. He thought he had added a fifth, but it was disallowed for offside.
Antonio Rudiger’s own goal was a late consolation, but the writing was on the wall for the Scots with Emre Can adding a fifth just before the end.
Another meme mocking the British side featured a famous Xbox message, in which one user messaged another: ‘Boy you’re clearly the better player, can you just pass it in the back for the second half, I want eat some toast.”
Another showed stewards’ failure to stop a series of pitch invaders, captioned: ‘Scottish defense against Germany’, with a third playing against England rivals supposedly supporting teams the Three Lions were up against, with the text: ‘Go get the Serbian flags’ before Sunday’s match.
