Former Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger risks landing himself in hot water with his wife, ex-tennis star Ana Ivanovic, after making a controversial comment live on air about Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez.
Schweinsteiger, 39, worked as a pundit on German TV channel ARD for Portugal’s match against the Czech Republic on Tuesday evening, and while Ronaldo was in action, they watched his eldest son, Ronaldo Jr., who celebrated his 14th birthday earlier this week.
ARD showed a clip of Rodriguez in a green crop top and tight blue sweatpants, giving Ronaldo Jr, who was wearing Germany’s new away shirt, a hug with her back to the camera as she handed over his presents.
While watching the video, Schweinsteiger told host Esther Sedlaczek, “There’s something going on with them.”
Sedlaczek responded, “What does that tell us now?”, before Schweinsteiger quickly shot back, “What are you looking at?”

Ronaldo and Rodriguez have been dating since 2016 and now live together in Saudi Arabia

Sedlaczek quickly realized that Schweinsteiger had his eyes on something other than the presents being handed out, and sighed, “Oh, Basti… On the sweater. On the shirt of the German national team’.
It is unlikely that Schweinsteiger, who is apparently distracted by Rodriguez’s appearance, will go down well with his wife, who was once the best female tennis player in the world.
Serbia’s Ivanovic held the top spot in the world rankings for 12 weeks in 2008 after winning the French Open that year – her only Grand Slam title.
She also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2008 before losing to Maria Sharapova.
Ivanovic and Schweinsteiger began their relationship in 2014 and married two years later, before she retired from tennis at the end of 2016 after a prolonged dip in form.
Ronaldo led Portugal to an important victory on Tuesday as the country came from behind to beat the Czech Republic
The couple has been married for eight years and has three children together. They welcomed sons Leon and Luca in 2018 and 2019 respectively and Ivanovic gave birth to their third child in May 2023, but the name of the third son remains unknown.
Away from the drama in the German TV studio, Ronaldo played 90 minutes for his country as they came from behind to win their opening match of Euro 2024.
Lukas Provod gave the Czech Republic a surprise lead, but Portugal leveled through a Robin Hranac own goal, and substitute Francisco Conceicao completed the comeback with a 92nd-minute winner.
