A popular food item has been recalled and shoppers have been warned to urgently check their cupboards.
NSW Health announced on Friday that the batch of Royal Fields Poppy Seeds from Basfoods sold through Coles was contaminated.
Countless packages of it turned out to be contaminated in the popular supermarket product.
A batch of poppy seeds has been issued in Coles and shoppers have been warned to urgently check their cupboards for any seeds.
The ‘non-food grade poppy seed’ [were] re-entered the supply chain,” the government body warned.
It was confirmed that the affected product has an expiration date of June 25, 2024.
“This product was previously recalled in November 2022, but Coles has determined that some units of the product have been purchased from their stores in recent weeks,” NSW Health said.
“This product is not safe to consume and people who purchased this recalled batch of poppy seeds should either throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
The same Basfoods product was also recalled in November 2022 in both Woolworths and Coles after the presence of a highly toxic chemical was found in it.
Thebaine had caused a slew of food poisoning among those who accidentally ate the poppy seeds before they were recalled.
