Baseball fans poked fun at MLB commissioner Rob Manfred after his voice cracked during his announcement of the Texas Rangers as World Series champions.

After the Rangers demolished the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0 and won the final series of the season 4-1, Manfred went to Globe Life Field on Wednesday for ceremonial proceedings – an annual fall ritual of the league commissioner, who has been responsible since 2015.

“63 years is a long time to wait, but the Texas Rangers are World Series champions,” Manfred said in front of fans of both teams in Arlington, a suburb of Dallas, as he struggled to speak into the microphone.

“It gives me great pleasure to present the commissioner’s trophy to (Rangers owner) Ray Davis, (Rangers President of Business Operations and COO) Neil Leibman, and (Rangers manager) Chris Young.”

While the reason behind Manfred’s hoarseness is unknown, fans quickly went online to talk about the moment the commissioner’s trophy was presented to the Rangers.

“I think he just went through puberty again,” a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, responded to Manfred’s gravelly voice.

“Wheezy, is that you?” read a GIF tweeted by someone else referencing the Toy Story character.

“Rob Manfred’s batteries are dying,” said another baseball fan.

“Someone give him some water oh my,” one user shared.

“Fall allergy season is coming for all of us, no, it’s safe,” another commented.

Manfred’s mysterious throat problem may be due to laryngitis, which is essentially the swelling of the vocal cords due to excessive use of the voice or a viral illness.

Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, meanwhile, earned his second World Series MVP award of his career after winning his first with the LA Dodgers in 2020.

He joins Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson as the only two-time World Series MVPs with his trio of two-run homers against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
