A bartender has revealed which drink orders immediately make him suspect a customer is underage.
The man, known only by TheBoi or his handle of @swagg0dd on TikTok, said he had extensive bartending experiences, from skeevy dive bars to high-end cocktail joints.
In a new 20-second clip, TheBoi plays out scenarios in which a customer orders a drink, prompting them to immediately ask to see the person’s identity before fulfilling the order.
“Orders that make me have to double-check your ID at the bar,” the video began, all told via text overlay, with The Boi silently miming the scenarios.
A bartender, known only as TheBoi on TikTok, made exchanges with customers that required him to ask for their ID before serving them
“Can I have a shot of Tito’s?” was the first order that made the bartender raise his eyebrows.
“Can I get a really sweet Dirty Shirley with lots of cherries?” is another order that would make TheBoi skeptical about whether or not a customer is of legal drinking age, especially considering the childish nature of essentially wanting an alcoholic version of a Shirley Temple.
A simple order of a “vodka soda” would not immediately arouse the bartender’s suspicions unless the customer subsequently shared an unusual brand preference.
TheBoi pantomimed and replied, “Yes, do you have a preference for the vodka?”
If the customer gave a completely ridiculous answer, for example the well-known tequila brand ‘Patron’, it would immediately be a red flag for minors for TheBoi.
Many of the hundreds who accepted the comments reacted with trepidation to their hypothetical bartender’s future judgment.
“This is why I hate bars. Every drink I order I always feel like I’m being judged,” one grumbled.
“I’m of legal age to drink, but I swear to God bartenders judge you for EVERY drink you order. Please, let me get what I want in peace,” agreed for a moment.
One of the bartender’s most important underage warnings was ordering a regular shot of Tito’s vodka
Elsewhere on his TikTok, the bartender insinuated that he had worked at a number of different establishments, from skeevy dives to high-end cocktail joints.
In response, a number of commenters complained about feeling ‘judged’ when patronizing their local watering hole
Quite a few others dared to unashamedly defend the Dirty Shirley, an alcoholic version of a Shirley Temple made with vodka.
To this, TheBoi confirmed: ‘Quiet, yes.’
‘I’m 29 and still have no idea how to order. Plus my stutter isn’t helping haha,” a third admitted.
Still, plenty of others unashamedly dared to take a stand in defense of the Dirty Shirley, which is made with vodka, grenadine, lemon-lime soda and topped with a maraschino cherries or two.
“Every time I hand over my ID to that filthy Shirley, POUR IT ON BABY,” one declared.
‘I will die on the hill that Dirty Shirleys are a sweet treat for any age!!!’ urged a second.
“Okay, I just turned 21 and I never thought about a Dirty Shirley… Shirley Temples are my FAVORITE when I’m in a bar for live music, but I’ll have to try a Dirty Shirley, hehe,” a third mused, to which TheBoi replied, “Have that ID ready.”
In any case, in an email correspondence with DailyMail.com, the bartender emphasizes that the TikTok is satirical, and that he “always” checks the ID of customers who appear to be under 40 years old.
It’s fair to say that TheBoi is far from the first bartender to enter social media with insights from their field, humorous and not so much.
San Francisco-based bartender Joshua explained what customers shouldn’t do while sitting at the bar, as DailyMail.com previously reported.
Elsewhere, veteran bartender Michelle Charlotte Kimball of Raleigh, North Carolina explained how ill-intentioned bar employees try to defraud their employers and co-workers.
