Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy scoops MASSIVE $1.65million payday after backing Scottie Scheffler to win The Masters… taking his winnings to $4.41m in a week after UConn’s March Madness triumph
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has given his bank balance a huge boost after raking in $1.65 million from Scottie Scheffler winning The Masters.
The millionaire media personality – and notorious gambler – held his nerve when he saw Scheffler don a second Green Jacket on Sunday night, turning his $300,000 bet into a cool $1.65 million.
Incredibly, this is the second huge windfall he’s pulled off in a week, after betting $600,000 on UConn to win March Madness and turning that into $2.76 million.
That brings his earnings to a staggering $4.41 million in the space of just six days, surely making for one of the most successful weeks of his gambling life.
Portnoy live-tweeted most of the tournament at Augusta National, mainly criticizing the American world No. 1 when he did something wrong.

Scottie Scheffler’s Masters win sealed another huge payday for the sports media personality
Throughout the day, Portnoy went through a range of emotions on his social media pages
It ended in delight for the Barstool Sports man, who labeled the world No. 1 as ‘that guy’
With Scheffler playing in the front nine on Sunday, Portnoy tweeted: ‘How the hell is a Scheffler the world number 1? He can’t string two good shots together all weekend. It is over.’
Less than two hours later it became: ‘SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER IS THAT GUY. A beast. A man child. Never blinks. BEST IN THE WORLD AND IT’S NOT EVEN CLOSE. I never doubted his greatness. He didn’t just win! He won for fun! Played with the competition. I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. #themasters’
Scheffler went into the tournament as the heavy favorite and that did not change over the four days, with the 27-year-old in contention throughout.
Portnoy had informed fans of his huge $300,000 bet long before play started on Sunday

At the turn on Sunday, he birdied holes eight, nine and 10 in a row to extend his lead, before making a slight mistake on the 11th hole.
He then birdied 13, 14 and 16 to extend his lead over Ludvig Aberg to four shots, making the final two holes at Augusta a relative parade.
It is Scheffler’s second Green Jacket in three years, and he now has two major championships to his name.
However, it would be a surprise if he doesn’t add to that very soon, with the PGA Championship, US Open and The Open Championship following closely in May, June and July.
