Barry Hall’s surprising career move: AFL great reveals his latest business venture
AFL star Barry Hall has revealed his surprising new career move: the launch of a new alcohol brand called Nectar Vodka.
The sports legend, 46, created the straw with his wife and former Hi-5 star Lauren Brant, 34, and brewer Michael McGovern.
The trio celebrated the brand’s release last month after months of hard work.
Products include 700ml vodka bottles, which sell for $69, as well as vodka soda packs, which start at $14.
The brand is marketed as a “cleaner vodka that fits the couple’s 80/20 diet mantra” and is distilled in Burleigh Heads.
The vodka contains “natural ingredients and is infused with real fruit.”

Lauren told fans last month that launching their new brand was an “emotional” experience.
‘All the emotions that come with launching a new brand. There are a lot. Number one – pure fucking excitement and pride,” she wrote on Instagram.

“It’s been an eye-opener for us, not just in our relationship, but in our relationships with others. I feel that new ventures not only make you vulnerable, but sometimes also affect those around you (and sometimes in a challenging way).’
She added: ‘It feels great for us to do something totally new that we’re passionate about. It’s all separate from growth.’
Halll retired from the AFL in 2011 and enjoyed a commentary career, even taking up boxing last year.

He also appeared in Channel Seven’s reality competition SAS Australia last year.
In December 2020, the former footy bad boy became a qualified “mind mentor” trying to help men of all ages overcome depression.
The Sydney Swans premiership-winning captain is a certified life coach and previously said he believes he can help other men cope with anxiety and stress, and create avenues for people in dark places to turn their lives around.

The former footy star was commenting on the station’s pre-game show with St Kilda legend Leigh Montagna when he made an insulting comment about Montagna’s wife Erinn, who was due to give birth at the time.
The panel discussed the fact that she had undergone a “sweep,” a technique used by medical professionals to try to induce labor.
Hall “joked” that the male doctor was behaving in a sexually inappropriate manner, which led to laughter from the other panelists.

Hall was sacked before the match between the Western Bulldogs and Geelong Cats at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium.
Social media collapsed after Hall’s vile comments, with many male and female fans expressing their disgust.
“Okay, so I don’t ever want to hear or see Barry Hall again on radio or television or anything. Ever,” one user wrote.
Another added: ‘I’ve been listening for 15 years. That comment from Barry Hall was the most outrageously offensive thing I’ve heard in a pre-game in a long time. Shameful. Embarrassing. Wrong.’
