- Bari Weiss said it would do nothing to stop the newspaper’s coverage of the war
Journalist Bari Weiss has shared photos of sickening, anti-Semitic graffiti left on the walls of The Free Press offices last week as reporters continue to cover the conflict in Israel and the war with Hamas.
Weiss, a former New York Times journalist who founded The Free Press in 2020 and is proudly Jewish, has been outspoken in her criticism of Hamas and the need for fair reporting on the war since the war began on October 7.
The graffiti, left on the walls of the hallways leading to the outlet’s New York office, read: “F**k Israel, f**k the Jews.”

Olivia Rheingold, a New York-based writer for The Free Press, also shared a video of the vandalism.
“This was scrawled outside our offices this week,” Weiss said, sharing photos of the abuse on Twitter.
“If the anti-Semites who did this think it will intimidate me and the journalists, then they don’t know me, they don’t know us and they have no idea what we stand for.”

“This is what we ran into last week at The Free Press,” she said. Her first text to a friend when she saw it was: “This makes our reporting more important than ever.”
There has been widespread anti-Semitism in New York City and beyond since Hamas launched its attack on October 7.

Swastikas have been painted on iconic Jewish delis, and social media comments from bankers, professors and even doctors have led to them losing their jobs.
In Detroit, synagogue president Samantha Woll was stabbed outside her home.
There was also a horrific, xenophobic attack on a young Muslim boy in Plainfield, Illinois.
Wadea al-Fayoume, six, was stabbed to death by his racist white landlord who shouted: “You Muslims must die!” before killing him and attacking his mother.
Weiss resigned from The New York Times in 2020 due to a lack of ideological diversity at the newspaper where she had worked for years.
In her resignation letter, she claimed she was labeled a “Nazi” and “racist” by her colleagues.
She founded The Free Press with a promise to oppose the kind of left-wing bias that has plagued most mainstream American media brands.
