Bargain Hunt host issues plea to viewers after Japanese ‘teapot’ sells for £400K

Bargain Hunt presenter Natasha Raskin Sharp pleaded with viewers to check out their lofts after a £400K ‘teapot’ was found after 50 years in a dusty attic.

The presenter, 36, revealed the ‘latest Ganga Hunt find’ during a recent episode in which the antique was revealed to be a ‘rare Chinese wine jug’.

Auctioneer Charles Hanson described the yellow floral element as “very sacred, very important and very rare.”

Going on to say it, the ‘ceremonial jug’ would have been used to hold water at the court of the Qianlong Emperor in the 18th century.

The porcelain vessel was thought to be worth £150 and was brought back from Japan by the owner’s grandfather in the 1940s.

Ancient: The ‘ultimate bargain hunt find’ was revealed by the host during a recent episode in which the ancient was revealed to be a ‘rare Chinese wine jug’

Incredible find: auctioneer Charles Hanson described the yellow floral element as “very sacred, very important and very rare”

Unbelievable: After being slapped £150,000 by pundit, he went on to raise a whopping £390,000 at auction

Saying: ‘Unknown to the owner, it had been in his house, in his attic for over 50 years.’

The expert went on to reveal that the ewer was ‘only one of three known’, with the other two in museums in Taiwan and Beijing.

After the pundit slapped him £150,000, he went on to raise a whopping £390,000 at auction.

It comes after Natasha was asked if she really owned an antique tea set, after she made a big win during a recent episode of Antiques Road Trip.

The hostess was speechless when she picked up the 1873 tea set in a shop and vowed she “had to have it,” before raking in a big profit when she brought it up for auction.

After the Victorian ensemble caught her eye, Natasha gushed, “I can’t even take that, it’s so… I don’t think I’ve ever described a tea server as heady before, but it’s heady stuff.” The palette, above all, pink.

‘Who does it make me think of? Is she a bit of a Barbara Cartland or something? I mean it’s so crowded. It looks very continental. Is there a maker on the saucer somewhere?’

The lotus tea set came from Vilmos Zsolnay in a chic pink ombre effect, and the set included a teapot, three cups, and several saucers.

How much does it cost? It comes after Natasha is asked if she really owned an antique tea set, after she made a huge profit.

Praising the tea set, Natasha said: “I mean, the Art Nouveau period, I think that’s how I would describe it and it’s so cheery.” I’m in love with him.

Originally the tea service was priced at £60, but Natasha brought it down to just £80, also buying a glass of whiskey for £40.

While on her way to the auction house in Wrexham, Natasha asked Phil, “Is it too pink for you or is it pink enough?”

Phil joked, “This is what I look like at the beach!” and the auction quickly sent the price of the tea set to £150.

Natasha was stunned as the tea set continued to rise, reaching £400, before the offer settled at a staggering £750.

Having scored a whopping £670 win, Natasha quipped: ‘Is this a joke? This is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Offering his congratulations, Phil said: ‘Well done! You are happy? You’re pleased that it’s a stupid question, right? Are you sure this is your lot? That’s brilliant, isn’t it?

It comes after pundit Izzie Balmer made a big win during a recent episode.

Charge! After spending just £80 on the tea set, it sold for £750 at auction, earning a massive £670 profit.

The antiques appraiser and auctioneer headed to the Derbyshire Dales with her co-star Ishy Khan to try and make some money buying and selling antiques.

Izzie, who joined the BBC show in 2019, made a huge profit at auction after spending just £5 on two tiny gold pendants.

The duo headed to numerous venues including the Matlock Bath Illuminations and Derby’s Pickford’s House Museum to try and snag a bargain.

At Armstrong’s Mill antiques shop, Izzie found a jewelery box priced at £30, but inside she saw two gold pendants that caught her eye.

The expert admitted: ‘I just took a look here out of habit. Actually, I didn’t expect to find anything here because I often think, ”well, the dealers will have been there by now”. But I have found a piece of gold!

‘It’s just a small thing, but it’s a small pendant. It’s nine karat gold, it has this lovely white opal in the middle.

‘Now, the colors are not spectacular on it. With opals, they are prized for their color play, so they actually have a better color play under the lens.”

Success! It comes after pundit Izzie Balmer made a big win during a recent episode.

Amazing! After spending just £5 on two gold pendants she had seen at the jeweler, Izzie made a huge profit at auction, with the pair fetching a final price of £100.

Explaining more about the item, Izzie said: ‘So this is what we call a bale. The bundle is stamped K18, which would be for 18 carats.

“It’s kind of 1970s now, but I think it’s definitely worth the risk, depending on the price,” and proceeded to ask the merchant what deal he could make for the two pendants.

He informed her that she could have any item in the jewelery box for £2.50 each, so she took out the pendants and paid him £5.

When the pair was put up for auction, bidding started at £55 before steadily rising until reaching a final price of £100.

Izzie enthused: ‘A great £5 return, isn’t it? I am very, very pleased with that!

All proceeds from the shows go to Children in Need.
